Swans “Birthing” is the Best Album of 2025
This is the Best Album of 2025 to date. The new album, “Birthing”, from avant-garde post-punk legends Swans is layered with threatening shadow and absolutely confounding in it’s visceral, complete vengeance. This is essential listening for those who feel facing Kali is a somehow good idea. We should be thankful that artists such as this are on the planet right now. The dedication to craft above commerce is remarkable. My listening experience with this album was unearthing deep trauma, shock, joy and liberation.
From Wikipedia: Birthing is the seventeenth studio album by the American experimental rock band Swans. It was released on May 30, 2025, through Mute and Young God Records. Frontman Michael Gira stated that the album was the last to focus on “all-consuming sound worlds”, with future albums taking on a “significantly pared down form”. The first single from Birthing, “I Am a Tower”, was released on February 25, 2025.
